Randall Productions is developing an hour for PBS/NOVA about the Vera Rubin Observatory
Using the largest digital camera ever built, Rubin will repeatedly scan the entire southern night sky every three nights, taking a 3200-megabyte image every 90 seconds. 6,000 of those images will be stitched together to form a panoramic picture of what the sky looked like 3 days ago, 3 weeks ago, 3 years ago, and ultimately 10 years ago; an ultra-wide, ultra-high-definition time-lapse record of the Universe—a movie of the cosmos in action; each panorama detecting about 10 million changes.
